New $45 TSA identity verification fee set to impact forgetful flyers
However, for those who do not yet possess a REAL ID, the best way to avoid the verification process and fee will be to obtain one before your next flight, said Paul Tine, commissioner for the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.
Under the program, adult passengers who do not present an acceptable form of ID, such as a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, passport, or another TSA-approved credential, may pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID to confirm their identity and proceed through the security checkpoint, according to the agency.
A critical Real ID deadline is approaching, and that will mean some travelers without a Real ID will have to pay extra to travel.
